In the fourth episode of Beyond the Thyroid, I’m excited to bring on a special guest, Dr. Alan McDaniel, to discuss the groundbreaking approach known as New Endocrinology. Dr. McDaniel, who has been my mentor and a pioneer in this field, shares his journey from traditional ENT and neurotology to embracing the out-of-the-box thinking that has transformed both his practice and the lives of many patients.

A Journey Toward New Endocrinology
Dr. McDaniel talks about his early career as one of the first fellowship-trained neurotologists in the country. His work with children suffering from chronic ear disease led him to explore alternative treatments. That’s when he discovered how allergies and yeast elimination diets could drastically improve his patients' health.

This curiosity, along with his willingness to challenge traditional medical practices, eventually led him to explore chronic fatigue syndrome. What he found was that many cases were linked to undiagnosed thyroid issues, such as Hashimoto's disease, and hormonal imbalances.

The Birth of New Endocrinology
Dr. McDaniel explains that his experiences with thyroid and hormone treatments were the driving force behind the development of New Endocrinology. This science-based, patient-centered approach updates traditional endocrinology practices using the latest research and clinical insights. It allows us to create individualized treatment plans that focus on each patient’s unique hormonal landscape, rather than relying on outdated guidelines.

A Collaborative Approach to Healing
Throughout the episode, we talk about how collaborative Dr. McDaniel’s work has been, especially when it comes to developing the New Endocrinology course, which he has been teaching for nearly 20 years. Now available online, this course provides doctors and practitioners with the tools and knowledge to apply these advanced techniques in their own practices.

We also discuss the importance of patient education, taking a thorough history, and addressing hormone systems in the right sequence. Dr. McDaniel and I both emphasize that treating the adrenals first lays a stable foundation for addressing thyroid issues, followed by balancing sex hormones and other related systems.

The New Endocrinology Course
We’re both really excited about the upcoming New Endocrinology course, which is being offered for free to live participants. It’s a unique opportunity for medical professionals to learn directly from a pioneer in the field and apply these cutting-edge practices to help their patients achieve better health outcomes.

This episode of Beyond the Thyroid is a deep dive into the evolving world of endocrinology. If you're a medical professional or someone interested in advanced thyroid and hormone health, you won’t want to miss it. Dr. McDaniel and I are pushing the boundaries of traditional medicine, and we’re excited to share this journey with you.
